The Full Adventure Jungle Tour
5 days, 4 nights

Hike along different types of jungle (primary virgin jungle, hilly jungle, flat flooded jungle) to learn about medicinal plants and trees, wildlife, and myths and legends associated to nature. Learn about the rehabilitation efforts for monkeys at the Maikuchiga Foundation and pay a visit to Alto del Aguila to feed the wild squirrel monkeys. Explore the small indigenous community of Tarapoto by the spectacular Lake Tarapoto, one of the largest marshland areas in the Colombian Amazon, and hike the Peruvian jungle in San Antonio to spot sloths in the wild and rest by the hojé tree with enormous roots.

DETAILED ITINERARY

DAY 1: LETICIA AND TABATINGA

  • Pick up at 11:00am from your hotel or from the airport (with this tour you can land in Leticia on the same day, as long as you arrive before 2:00pm)

  • Take a taxi to cross the official border between Leticia, Colombia, and Tabatinga, Brazil, to enjoy a typical Brazilian lunch

  • Visit the Comara Lookout Point to see the Amazon River from above as well as the border where Peru, Colombia and Brazil meet 

  • Return to Colombia to visit Mundo Amazónico, a jungle tour trail in Leticia to walk the 4 trails of knowledge and learn about medicinal plants and trees, the natural products of the jungle, cultural villages of different indigenous tribes and a small aquarium to learn about the most important fish species below the Amazon River. 

  • Taxi ride to your hotel for the night

    • Option 1: spend the night in the beautiful Hotel Utuane in Leticia, where you will also enjoy a delicious dinner

    • Option 2: spend the night in a treehouse at Tanimboca Nature Reserve, where you will also enjoy a delicious dinner (upon availability and for an additional cost - please know there is no electricity and you can only take a small bag up to the treehouse) 

DAY 2: MONKEY DAY 

  • Breakfast at your hotel 

  • Pick up from your hotel at 8:00am

  • Visit the Central Market Place of Leticia, where locals gather from surrounding indigenous communities to sell fresh fish and fruit from the region 

  • 9:00am: 2hr boat trip up the Amazon River from Leticia to the indigenous community of Mocagua 

  • Lunch in the indigenous community of Mocagua

  • After lunch, visit the Maikuchiga Foundation in the indigenous community Mocagua to see different species of wild monkeys (boquiblanco, maicero, churuco), they are playful and you can feed them if you like

  • Boat ride to Puerto Nariño, looking for pink and gray dolphins along the way 

  • Visit Alto del Aguila to see different species of monkeys (squirrel monkeys and titi monkeys) and macaws

  • 1hr night walk to look for scorpions, tarantulas, poisonous frogs and insects

  • Dinner in Puerto Nariño

  • Overnight in your Hotel in Puerto Nariño

DAY 3: LAKE TARAPOTO 

  • 7:30am: typical Amazonian breakfast in Puerto Nariño

  • Private boat trip to the indigenous community by Lake Tarapoto

  • Meet an additional guide from the indigenous community for a jungle hike (dry season June to December) or canoe trip through flooded jungle (rainy season December to June) to see the ceiba tree, the largest tree species in the Amazon

  • Lunch in a family house in the indigenous community of Tarapoto, cooked by mothers of the community

  • Go out to Lake Tarapoto to learn traditional fishing techniques to fish piranhas, sardines and other fish (please know fishing is much easier during the dry season from June to December), enjoy a refreshing swim and catch the beautiful sunset

  • Night boat trip to look for caimans and enjoy the jungle by night

  • Typical Amazonian dinner cooked by mothers of the community

  • Sleep in the traditional cabin in Tarapoto

DAY 4: SAN ANTONIO, PERU ​

  • 7:30am breakfast in Puerto Nariño

  • 20min boat trip on the Amazon River to the indigenous community of San Antonio, Peru

  • Jungle walk to see sloths in the wild with an additional guide from the community, then go on a longer jungle hike to see the hojé tree with huge roots

  • Lunch in a family home cooked by mothers from the community 

  • Go canoeing to see the Victoria Regia flower 

  • Return to Puerto Nariño, see more pink and gray dolphins along the way

  • Dinner in Puerto Nariño 

  • Overnight in Puerto Nariño in your Hotel

DAY 5: PUERTO NARIÑO 

  • Breakfast in Puerto Nariño 

  • Go out by boat for another chance to see pink and gray dolphins in the Amazon River, their natural habitat.

  • Then travel by boat to the nearby Lake Yolvino to look for wild sloths, birds, and iguanas in their natural habitats. *During rainy season (December to June) you will also use traditional canoes to paddle by the river and into the flooded jungle. 

  • Jungle hike to visit Wochine Reserve and see the pirarucu, the largest fish species in the Amazon, as well as caimans and turtles

  • Return to Puerto Nariño for lunch 

  • Try delicious homemade ice cream made from Amazonian fruits 

  • 3:30pm: take the speed boat back to Leticia, the tour ends at 5:30pm

  • One of our team members will pick you up at the port of Leticia, and take you to the center of Leticia

  • End of tour
